Setting the Bar
The modern business environment exposes businesses and other organizations to a wide array of risks based on how it handles data, identity, and cyber and physical security systems. Mismatched expectations about what data is sensitive and how it will be protected can result in canceled projects, damaged relationships, and financial liability.
This is especially true in fields like politics, security, and high tech.
Large companies have sophisticated legal and compliance teams to negotiate these terms and enforce standards. Small- and medium-sized organizations don’t always have the resources to negotiate standards for privacy and data protection.
That is the problem OpSSC (pronounced “Ops C”) was founded to solve. By setting templated standards at several levels of sensitivity, any organization can easily refer to these standards, whether as a simple expectation-setting conversation or as a contractual requirement.

Not exactly.
OpSSC is not a profit-driven project. We do not sell standards or products.
However, the Council is currently organized as a property of Settler Security, LLC, which is a for-profit corporation. If the project achieves success, we anticipate spinning it off into its own nonprofit organization in the near future.
